East Coast Adventure Part II

The only weekend we spent in the Washington DC area, we visited some more of the city. We went to Air and Space, where we almost lost Ian. He was in awe with all the space stuff and we didn't realize he hadn't followed us, but somehow we found him (or he found us, I'm not sure which), thank goodness. We got to see the first airplane that was flown by the Wright brothers and that was a highlight for the kids.

We went to the top of the old Post Office tower and had a nice view of the city. Ian took over the camera at this point.

We stayed at a hotel 3 of the 4 weeks and our room had 2 queen beds. The kids took turns sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag and this must have been one of Annika's nights.

On Sunday Morning we went to see the National Cathedral. They had a service going on (go figure), so we toured the less explored part. I loved this door.
The building is beautiful. Ian thought it looked like a castle

After church meetings with our old congregation (with lots of new people), we took a stroll around the Washington DC Temple. It looked as gorgeous as ever and we watched the Joseph Smith movie for Family Home Evening on Monday at the Visitors Center (I think some of the parts might have been a little disturbing for our young children, but we had our 'own' little private theater).

We went to the zoo again and this time we got to watch Kandulah the elephant taking a 'bath'. It was a lot of fun to watch and I told Kaelyn I remembered when this elephant was born, she was exactly one month old! There's also a gorilla that was born around the same time. On our third visit we got to see the new baby gorilla.

Ian wanted to see if his head would fit inside a T-Rex's mouth. Yup, no problem!

Wheaton Regional Park is a really fun place. I already mentioned the nature center in my previous post, but this park is huge. There's an enormous playground with 3 or 4 sections and lots of slides and fun stuff for every age. Annika especially enjoyed this red tube slide and she went down it so many times, I actually got a good picture of her sliding down.

One day, our last week in town, we went to the part with the train and carousel. We got a pack of 10 tickets and rode the train once and the carousel twice. The carousel is really neat and looks old. It's mostly made out of wood and I remember when we lived in the area, it was being restored. Kaelyn rode a horse that was missing a leg. (not that you can tell frm this picture)

Still more to come ...
