Darth Vader and the Fairies

On Tuesday (or was it Monday? I can't keep my days straight anymore), Kaelyn showed me her homework after she finished. One of the assignments was to write 5 sentences about her Halloween costume. The plan had been for me to make her fairy costume, but it didn't look like it was going to happen. I had a back up just in case. Well, she wrote all about her fairy costume and that her mom was making it. I felt so guilty. Probably mostly because I've had the pattern and fabric, etc. for a few years and never got around to actually making it. This time, I had the dress all cut out. Well, I began a race against time. I pretty much neglected everything else and stayed up late. I really don't have a lot of sewing experience, so it took me extra time to figure out the pattern and to pick out seams where I messed up.Anyway, I finished right before the church Halloween party/trunk or treat (although I really messed up on the skirt).

Annika had been dressed up as Cinderella all day. Then, when she saw Kaelyn in her fairy costume, she wanted to be a fairy too! Good thing I already had fairy stuff in her size.
Ian has a Star Wars obsession right now and wanted to be Darth Vader. I think it suits him well. He has a blue light saber and thought he needed a red one as well, because Darth Vader's light saber is red. I made him one out of stuff I had around the house (toilet paper roll, packaging material, tissue paper, aluminum foil, plastic wrap and tape). It didn't last long.
Nate wanted to dress up as something too. He grabbed Ian's storm trooper helmet and blue light saber. He put the helmet on while driving, but it wasn't very safe. He couldn't wear it at the party anyway, because masks weren't allowed.
I wish I had taken pictures of some of the costumes that the adults had come up with. Amazing! I almost killed myself trying to finish Kaelyn's costume and I don't know if I could come up with one for myself.

The kids got a ton of candy and after the trunk or treat at the party, we did a little bit more trick or treating in our neighborhood. We had a lot of fun. I think I'd better start planning now for next Halloween (and our next dentist visit) ...

Your kids looked great! That cracks me up about Nate and the storm trooper helmet. I wish masks were allowed cause that would have been funny to see walking over to the pavilion.

Lieve Deb,

Je hebt het geweldig gedaan! Ik zie niets vreemds aan de rok en jullie hebben veel plezier gehad.
Ik ben hardstikke trots op je en ken dat naaien tot op het laatste moment maar al te goed.
Liefs, mam

Way to go on the costume! It looks great. I bet no one could tell that you had messed up on the skirt.
I bet Nate is so proud that Ian loves Star Wars!
