Last Man Standing
Ian had a T-Ball game Saturday afternoon. We were running a little late and I was relieved when I saw Ian's team was up to bat. When we got closer, I realized that there were only 3 other players from Ian's team. Ian was the last to show up, so they played the entire game with just 4 of their 10 players. The other team had all of their players, so the game was really off balance. The hardest thing was that it was at least 100 degrees out there and the poor kids were soon overheating with all the running they had to do. Especially when they had to hit more than once every inning. One girl got a dehydration headache and was out of the game for a while, leaving only 3 players. Ian got to play every position: pitcher, 1st base/short stop and in between 2nd & 3rd base. It was really crazy. Another player was suffering from the heat and had to cool down for a while, leaving only the coach's son, Sean, and Ian to bat. Sean tried to run all the way and got tagged out which really upset him. That left Ian the last man standing. He was still smiling and he played really well. Coach made the kids drink lots of water and they had some time outs to cool down a little. It would have helped if some more kids had showed up, but Ian got a lot of practice and he had a few really good hits. The little Cardinals did really well considering the circumstances. Next time I'll have to remember to bring the camera, because Ian has improved so much from his first few games.
