Rodeo

If you live in San Antonio, Texas you have to go to the rodeo at least once. Well, we've still never made it to the actual rodeo, but the kids and I have made it to the grounds (on military day when it's free) every year we've been here. I took Kaelyn out of school early yesterday and we went with a bunch of friends from church. In the morning, temperatures had been in the 40s, but pretty soon it was in the high 70s and there was just no shade. After a few hours we were pretty dehydrated and hating it. Our kids had fun though with the animals at the petting zoo. They had goats, sheep, deer, llamas, chickens, wallaby kangaroos and who knows what else. Kaelyn loved the deer best and Ian the chickens. He tried to pick one up (that's a chicken behind the llama).

There was also a birds of prey exhibit with real owls, hawks, buzzards, falcons, a raven, a sea eagle and a golden eagle (my personal favorite). Of course the kids aren't as crazy as I am about birds and they would much rather have done some carnival rides. Kaelyn was set on riding the carousel and a real pony, but I just wanted to go home.

Ian was intrigued by a bunch of eggs under a warmer that were hatching right before his eyes at the animal encounter exhibit. Kaelyn didn't go in because she was having a headache. She's been having a lot of those lately, so I gave her some tylenol and made her drink a lot of water.

We also saw a magic show about recycling with a talking 'Mother Earth.' The kids thought it was great. And of course the 'swifty swine pig race'. It's put on by oreo cookies and the pigs race to get to the cookie. They also had a 12 week old potbellied pig swim across an 8 foot water tank. Even Annika thought it was entertaining.
We made it back just in time for Kaelyn's dance lesson. When I asked her if she had a fun time, she replied: "No I didn't. It was a yucky day." I think I'll leave her in school next year if I decide to go again.
