I finally joined a gym and took the kids swimming at the indoor pool this morning. We met some friends there and they had a blast! Annika is like a little fish. As soon as she hits the water, she starts kicking her little legs and she giggles and splashes and has so much fun! I think we spent about 1 1/2 hours in the water and then Annika held her hands up, crying 'hands, hands'. Apparently she was very disturbed by her raisin-like fingers. When we got dressed, I had her put some lotion on them.
After we got home, Nate took the kids on a 'daddy-kid date'. After that, it was off to the park and Nate had brought some tools to remove the training wheels from our toddler bicycle. I had been wondering how I was ever going to teach Kaelyn to ride a bike, then Nate just took care of it. It didn't take her long. She practiced on the tennis court. There was plenty of space and it was enclosed. Ian's bike was a little on the small side for her, but it was perfect for learning to balance and it's easier to stop yourself with your legs if you have to. Next, it was Ian's turn. It took him hardly any time at all to learn and soon he was riding around like a pro. Maybe it was his 'Easy Ride' shirt he was wearing or, as Nate speculated, the Dutch blood in him ;o) I had forgotten my camera and ran home to get it. It seemed like they couldn't get enough and they kept taking turns. Finally, we made them stop and went to Lowe's to look at paint colors for the living room (the new ceiling texture looks terrific). After that, we bought some chocolate icecream and cones (after we tried to find chocolate soft serve icecream at several restaurants) because the kids did such an awesome job learning to ride a bike without training wheels. What a fun day! And the weather was absolutely gorgeous too. Actions videos are right here:
