Bike Rodeo

Kaelyn's school is doing a Bike Rodeo on Friday. I bet you're wondering what on earth a bike rodeo is. I'm not real sure, but from the information I gleaned it's a bike safety and skill event. All kids get to bring their bike to school and a policeman will inspect the bike's safety features (we had to get a rear reflector, bell and headlight for Kaelyn's bike). Then they'll do a skills test. I'm guessing some kind of obstacle course. So on Tuesday I took the kids to the playground so Kaelyn could practice some maneuvers. We used water bottles instead of cones to 'zigzag' around. It took a few tries, but pretty soon Kaelyn was cruising around them, knocking one or two down once in a while. Of course I had my camera handy and she thought I was taking pictures (I was making a little video of her) and she asked me if I was taking pictures so I could put them on my blog. She knows all about the blog...

When they were done riding, it was off to the playground. Soon Kaelyn and Ian were fighting over who would get to take Annika down the slide. We talked about what would be a better solution and they came up with a train. They took turns holding Annika and being the caboose. One time Ian ran up to the slide, calling out: "I'm the caboose!" It was so cute!

Annika has not quite figured out how to push the pedals on a tricycle, but she likes to be just like the bigger kids and wear a helmet and 'ride bike'.

Way to go Kaelyn. She's a bike pro!
